Tao Te Ching (or the Tao and its Characteristics) is an iconic Chinese text and the foundation work for the emergence of Taoism. The author(s) and the time of writing has been debated, but it is generally attributed to the sage Laozi (also romanized as Lao Tse) and oldest portions of the text are said to originate from 4th century BC.
